08 July 2021 The threshold of four million deaths worldwide from complications attributable to the coronavirus has been exceeded.

Johns Hopkins University said this, updating the death toll to 4,000,929.

Instead, 185,029,960 people are infected globally.       



The United States is the country most affected by the pandemic with 33,770,444 infected and 606,218 deaths.

India follows with 30,663,665 positives and 404,211 deaths.

The number of deaths in Brazil is higher, 528,540, while the cases confirmed by the authorities are 18,909,037.



The Japanese government intends to declare a state of emergency in Tokyo and keep it in force during the Olympics, while the capital fights against a new wave of infections. The measure will be announced today by Prime Minister Yoshihide Suga and it is feared that, with the measures imposed, spectators will not be able to attend the Games. 920 new cases of contagion were recorded yesterday in Tokyo, the highest figure since May.
