A team of technicians, volunteers and police and civil guards has managed to return to the open sea a common fin whale of about 18 meters that, when disoriented, had been

trapped for several hours in the waters of the Real Club Náutico de Valencia

.

As reported by the Port of Valencia, the Local Police and the conservationist NGO Xaloc, the event took place this Wednesday in the waters of the Nautical River and ended successfully thanks to "a great coordination effort," according to NGO sources.

The team that has been able to return the cetacean to the open sea has been made up of technicians from the Ministry of Agriculture, the NGO Xaloc, the University of Valencia and the Polytechnic of Valencia, the Oceanogràfic Foundation, Red Cross, Civil Guard, Valencia Charter, Royal Club Náutico de Valencia and the Local Police.

After several attempts, the whale has finally been led to the mouth of the port, where, following its own course, it has managed to go out to sea, heading south.

In this case,

the team was authorized to safely approach the animal and thus get it out of the port

, they point out from Xaloc, which remembers the Navigation protocol in case of sighting of cetaceans with pleasure boats, which prohibits approaches to this group of animals within 60 meters, as well as the importance of alerting 112 in case of sighting of marine animals trapped in port and other types of strandings.

The fin whale is the second largest animal in the world and during the summer months it is found in the waters of the Spanish Mediterranean, and in recent weeks several specimens have been seen along the coast of the Valencian Community.
