The Prime Minister of Luxembourg, Xavier Bettel, was placed this Sunday under observation in the hospital for 24 hours.

This decision was taken "as a precaution" in order to carry out additional analyzes, a week after having tested positive for Covid-19, according to a government press release.

Xavier Bettel, 48, began a ten-day period in isolation on June 27, less than 48 hours after a European summit in Brussels where he had met other EU leaders.

The head of the Luxembourg government then presented mild symptoms (fever, headache).

Resurgence of infections in the country

No other participant had been considered as a contact case, the barrier gestures having been respected, having then indicated the government of Luxembourg.

Xavier Bettel received a first injection of the AstraZeneca vaccine on May 6.

Luxembourg, a country of 630,000 inhabitants located between Germany, Belgium and France, has experienced a resurgence of infections for ten days.

At the last count stopped this Saturday, 136 people tested positive for Covid-19, figures that had not been reached since mid-May.
