It was in mid-May 2020 that three men were injured in connection with a shooting on Bårstaberget in Södertälje.

Two men in their 20s, resident in Västerås, were sentenced in both the district court and the court of appeal to prison for having fired shots at a third man - who defended himself by firing back, and survived.

Today, another man from Västerås was convicted of involvement, when Södertälje District Court finds that a 35-year-old resident of Västerås participated in the planning of the attempted murder.

The 35-year-old has ensured that the assassination attempt could have taken place by luring the target to the place where he would be shot dead.

He is therefore convicted of aiding and abetting attempted murder.

The evidence includes chats from the encrypted tool Enchrochat.

Also convicted of serious drug offenses

The 35-year-old is also convicted of five counts of a serious drug offense.

He has offered drugs for sale and transferred drugs, as well as mediated contact between buyers and sellers.

The 35-year-old was charged with organizing drug smuggling from Spain, after a truck with 309 kilos of cannabis resin got stuck in the customs in Trelleborg.

However, the district court considers that it is unclear what role the 35-year-old had regarding drug transport to Sweden.

He is therefore acquitted of that charge.

The court considers that the prosecutor has not presented sufficient evidence regarding the extent of the 35-year-old's drug activities, or that he has had the role of principal for, for example, a smuggling activity.

The district court therefore acquits him of both extremely serious drug offenses and drug smuggling.

The 35-year-old is sentenced to a total of 11 years in prison.

He is currently serving a seven-month prison sentence for crimes he has previously been convicted of, including drug offenses and serious tax offenses.

Another five men are sentenced to varying lengths of imprisonment for drug-related crime in the same case. One of these has been appointed as leader of the Södertälje network.
