05 July 2021 "Forty years have passed since the murder of Giuseppe Taliercio, and consciences are still deeply disturbed by the cruelty of the Red Brigades, by their delusional motivations, by the inhumanity of that long, dramatic kidnapping that preceded the assassination and which became in fact a ruthless torture ". Thus the President of the Republic, Sergio Mattarella, in a statement on the occasion of the 40th anniversary of the murder of the Montedison manager, killed by the Red Brigades.

"On this day of remembrance, the Republic expresses closeness and solidarity above all to the family, which faced the most unspeakable pain with dignity and was able to bear witness, in suffering, to the highest principles that found civil coexistence and that allow the community to look forward with renewed hope ", continues the head of state. "The country has overcome the season of terrorism and subversion thanks to the values that are rooted in its people and its civilization, values that the Constitution has placed at the center of social life and which, in the face of the hardest and bloodiest attacks , have always been defended with a spirit of unity ", writes Mattarella.

"Giuseppe Taliercio was director of the petrochemical of Montedison in Porto Marghera. The terrorists chose him and killed him for the role he held. They had no consideration for his humanity, as for other innocent victims. The meekness and moral integrity of Giuseppe Taliercio, expressed even in the distressing days of the kidnapping, however, gave his martyrdom a value, if possible, emblematic of the senselessness of armed action and of the ideology that supported such violence. The Republic cannot forget also why from these witnesses, and from the sacrifices of so many people, the decisive push has come to defeat terror and to rebuild the fabric of solidarity, freedom, democracy again ", concludes Mattarella.
