Sunday, a man was killed by participating in a triathlon event organized in Gravelines, near Dunkirk, in the North, we learned from the Departmental Fire and Rescue Service (SDIS).

The emergency services intervened around 12:40 p.m. on one of the Ch'Tri Man races.

A 47-year-old Belgian national drowned during the swimming event.

The victim, brought back to earth, was taken care of first by the rescuers present on the race, then by the firefighters.

Despite attempts at resuscitation, the athlete could not be saved and was pronounced dead on the spot.

The victim was competing in the Ch'Tri Man 113 which includes a 1,900m swimming event, 90km cycling and a 21km half marathon.

For the men, the race started at 12 noon on Sunday.

“Shaken by this tragedy, we offer our deepest condolences to his family and friends.

We accompany them in their distress, ”said the organization of the event in a statement.
