The ambassador of a foreign country in Lebanon is waiting in line for petrol

The Canadian Ambassador to Lebanon, Chantal Chastainay, published a photo on the social networking platform "Twitter", attached to a comment about the gasoline crisis that Lebanon has been experiencing in recent months.

Canadian Ambassador Chastainay tweeted: "Finally a gas station on the horizon!

Waiting in line as patiently as everyone.. What do you do on a beautiful Saturday morning?”

The Lebanese have been waiting for weeks for hours in long queues in front of gas stations, which adopted a policy of severe rationing in the distribution of gasoline and diesel, while the ability of the Electricité du Liban to provide electricity has gradually decreased, bringing the daily rationing hours to 22 hours.

According to the new price list published by the official National Media Agency in Lebanon, the price of a can of gasoline (20 liters) 95 octane exceeded 60,000 pounds (40.6 dollars according to the official exchange rate) after an increase of about 16,000 pounds.

The price of a can of gasoline 98 octane is about 63,000 ($42), after an increase of 16,300 pounds.

The price of a diesel fuel tank exceeded 46,000 pounds ($30.7), after an increase of 12,800 pounds.

On Tuesday, Lebanon raised fuel prices by more than 30%, in a move that comes within the framework of partially lifting fuel subsidies, with the depletion of dollar reserves at the Banque du Liban.

It should be noted that Lebanon is witnessing the worst economic crisis in its modern history, with the national currency losing about 90% of its value, against the backdrop of the fuel shortage crisis, as the government suffers from a shortage of hard foreign currencies needed to secure fuel and support imports that include most basic commodities and medicines.
