Egypt .. harassing the “intensive care patient” for the prosecution: “I was doing cardiopulmonary resuscitation for her”

The South Giza Prosecution ordered the detention of a nurse in a private hospital in the Omrania area for 4 days pending investigations, after a woman accused him of molesting her in the hospital’s intensive care room, taking advantage of her sick condition.

Today, Saturday, the Public Prosecution received the investigations of the Criminal Investigation Department about the incident, where it was found from the investigations that the woman was in intensive care and passed out, then one of the nurses entered and harassed her, and grabbed sensitive areas in her body while she was unable to move and was aware of his actions. From the hospital, the nurse came out. The staff refused and stood on the stairs leading to the upper floor so that no one of the patient's relatives could climb.

In the prosecution’s investigations, the nurse accused of harassment said that he thought she was in a coma and was unaware, justifying placing his hand on the patient’s chest that he was treating her, adding: “I was doing a cardiopulmonary resuscitation for her by applying the usual medical procedure by placing my hand on her chest,” according to “Al-Masry Al-Youm.” .

The Public Prosecution confronted the accused with the patient's statements, who confirmed that she felt the nurse's actions as he placed his hand on sensitive areas of her body more than once, and said: "He did not have mercy on my disease and I suffer from shortness of breath in the intensive care room alone."

The victim said: "I went to the hospital after feeling short of breath and was accompanied by my sister and her young daughter, and when the nurse saw me, he took me to the intensive care room, and asked my sister to wait outside the room and that he would bring the doctor."

The victim added that after a few minutes, he returned to the room and put his hand on sensitive areas of my body in an attempt to indecently indecently assault and when I noticed his behavior and slander, he left the room.

A video clip had spread widely on the social networking sites “Facebook” and “Twitter”, entitled “A nurse harassing a patient in intensive care,” and the clip, which shows an argument between a sick family and a number of hospital workers, caused the anger of a large number of pioneers on Communicate and demand that the accused nurse be tried as soon as possible.

It is noteworthy that the Parliament's Constitutional and Legislative Affairs Committee approved on June 27 a bill calling for amending the Penal Code on sexual harassment.

Parliament passed the law, proposed by the majority-winning Future Home Party, which increases the penalty for sexual harassment and turns it from a misdemeanor to a felony.

According to Penal Code No. 58 of 1937, regarding exposure to others and sexual harassment, the penalty according to Article 306 is up to one year in prison and a fine of 10,000 pounds.

But the recent amendments will increase the penalties, as they will not be less than two years and not more than four years, with a fine of at least 100,000 pounds and not more than 200,000 pounds.

These two penalties are for anyone who is subjected to harassment, whether verbally or physically, or even through pornographic insinuations.

But if the act is repeated through prosecution, the penalty becomes imprisonment for at least three years and not exceeding five years, with a fine of no more than 300,000 Egyptian pounds.

The amendments also stipulate that if the harasser has family, educational or occupational authority over the victim, the penalty will be doubled, up to seven years in prison and a fine of no more than 500,000 pounds.
