03 July 2021 "52 rotten apples? Let's cut down the tree!": Is the text of the banner, with the symbol of an anarchist movement which, according to reports from prison police, was found on an overpass in Rome.

The banner, according to what has been learned, was later removed. The threatening sentence aroused great concern among prison police officers who reported the fact. The banner refers to the 52 prison policemen receiving precautionary measures issued for the beatings of the detainees which took place on 6 April 2020 in the prison of Santa Maria Capua Vetere (Caserta).

Uspp: clear warning sign banner

"The banner that appeared against the Penitentiary Police is just one of the warning signs that must make those who continue to publish photos, names and addresses of people belonging to a State institution who in this way of public trial risk the reaction of members of crime while they are to be judged in the courtrooms ". This was underlined in a note by Giuseppe Moretti and Ciro Auricchio, respectively national president and regional secretary for Campania of the Union of Penitentiary Police Unions (Uspp).

"Too much media attention - they add - risks generating dangers also for the maintenance of the prison system where until proven otherwise it is the prison police that maintain order, security and legality that cannot be considered only within the perimeter walls of prisons but also for the entire public society ".

"On July 7 - let the two trade unionists know - in the meeting with Minister Cartabia we will finally face crucial issues for the credibility of the Corps that is to be reformed but precisely because of the desolating abandonment to itself committed to filling daily criticalities without human resources and materials in environments unsuitable to guarantee their psychophysical safety. A body that must be able to see its role relaunched being the fulcrum of the certainty of punishment ". "We ask those who have political and administrative responsibility, - conclude Moretti and Auricchio - measures to protect those who carry out their work correctly and do a public service and cannot risk due to actions that, if ascertained, will be punished with a regular trial in the classrooms of the court and not in the square ".
