According to the 23-year-old's lawyer Eric Widner, the decision was made to appeal the district court's ruling some time ago - and is not connected with prosecutor Anna Johansson's decision today to also appeal.

- We were ready early on to take the case to the Court of Appeal.

There are several reasons for that, but for my principal the most important reason is that he wants to be acquitted of murder, and as a result also get a shorter prison sentence, says Eric Widner to SVT Nyheter Blekinge.

According to Eric Widner, the defense also has objections to the motive presented by the prosecutor: that the 23-year-old risked being allowed to move if the 57-year-old, who owned the home where the two men lived together, was not killed.

- I do not think that the prosecutor has proved the motive and there I do not share the district court's assessment.

The 23-year-old was sentenced on June 15 to 18 years in prison for murder, despite the fact that it was the co-accused 22-year-old who killed the victim with a wrench.

The 23-year-old was then responsible for dissecting the body before the two men jointly transported the remains to the archipelago island of Varö, where they were then buried.

The 22-year-old's lawyer has previously announced that he will appeal the verdict:
