  Wang Wenbin said that the International Atomic Energy Agency is actively preparing to establish a technical working group on the disposal of polluted water from the Fukushima nuclear accident in Japan following repeated appeals by stakeholders such as China and South Korea.

A few days ago, IAEA Director General Grossi has sent a letter inviting Chinese experts to participate in the working group.

  Wang Wenbin pointed out that China will fully support the follow-up work of the working group.

It is hoped that the International Atomic Energy Agency will fully listen to the opinions of stakeholders and ensure that the working group can play its due role to realize the technical evaluation and supervision of the nuclear contaminated water in Fukushima, Japan before, during and after the event.

  "The issue of the disposal of polluted water from the Fukushima nuclear accident in Japan is of great importance and is not a private matter of Japan."

Wang Wenbin said that China strongly urges Japan to provide all necessary cooperation to ensure that the IAEA technical working group can carry out its work smoothly.

Before reaching a consensus with various stakeholders including neighboring countries and relevant international institutions, Japan must not initiate the discharge of nuclear contaminated water without authorization.
