The UAE Genome Program announced its cooperation with the Abu Dhabi Health Services Company (SEHA) to highlight the importance of genetics and genetic medicine, and to encourage citizen participation in the programme.

As part of this partnership, the company collected blood samples from its Emirati employees over a period of three days.

The program aims to improve health care services provided to citizens, and enhance the country's position as a center for research and innovation in the field of genomics.

In partnership with SEHA’s extensive network of health care facilities, new sites have been added to collect blood samples in Abu Dhabi, including the Zafarana Center for Diagnostic and Comprehensive Examination, Sheikh Khalifa Medical City, and Khalifa City Health Center, in addition to a number of health centers in Al Ain ( Including Tawam Hospital and Mazyad Health Center).

The Executive Medical Director of Abu Dhabi Health Services Company, Dr. Anwar Salam, confirmed that there is a common vision with the UAE Genome Program, to build a comprehensive health care system, designed specifically to meet the health needs of citizens, and improve ways to prevent, diagnose and treat diseases.

He added: “A large number of our employees participated in the program, and this partnership provides greater ease of access to the UAE genome programme.

We invite all Emiratis to participate in the largest human genome study in the world, as their contribution paves the way for building a healthier future for future generations.”

G42 Healthcare uses the Omex Center of Excellence, the largest and most technologically advanced biological science facility in the region, to analyze information, draw a comprehensive genetic map, and provide data that contributes to making large-scale scientific discoveries.

Dr. Fahad Al-Marzouqi, chief operating officer of G42 Healthcare, said: “Genomics is changing the way we view healthcare by providing us with a broader understanding of disease development.

The UAE Genome Program aims to enable the medical community and healthcare institutions in the UAE to devote the power of genomic technology to improve the level of healthcare for citizens and contribute to achieving national healthcare priorities.

The cooperation with SEHA reflects the commitment of G42 Healthcare to expand the scope of the program in Abu Dhabi, and to provide an opportunity for every citizen to participate in this important project.”

It is noteworthy that the UAE Genome Program is open to the participation of Emirati citizens of all age groups.

Participants will be asked to donate a blood sample or a cheek swab, while visiting the sample collection centres, where a team of healthcare experts will be waiting for them to assist them during the process.

Participants assist the scientific community in finding accurate preventive diagnostic solutions that take into account their personal health needs, and protect their community and the future of future generations.

The UAE Genome Program operates according to a high set of ethical and administrative standards, to ensure the protection of the confidentiality of participants' data.

The data will be used to develop healthcare strategies to meet the current and future needs of Emirati citizens, and support the development of preventive medicine in the UAE.

"The genome program aims to improve health care services for citizens and enhance the country's status as a research center."
