• Ilévia is experimenting with the lighting of its République metro station.

  • The installation was carried out by a design agency in three locations of the resort.

  • If the feeling of travelers is positive, two new stations could be equipped.

Enter the light, and the metro.

This Thursday, the general manager of Ilévia, Gilles Fargier, pressed a button.

By doing this, he set in motion an experimental lighting scheme for the République-Beaux arts metro station in Lille.

The idea is to give a boost of modernity to a heritage that is certainly rich, but which is beginning to date.

“Dark”, “sad”, these are two unflattering adjectives that emerged from the field survey conducted to collect the feelings of Lille metro users.

“Each of the 60 stations is different, it is a real heritage, unique, created by architects.

It is about giving back to this heritage the innovative, modern and inspiring side that it had at the time ”, recognizes Gilles Fargier, CEO of Ilévia.

Ilévia wants to "seduce the traveler"

The ripolinage will begin with the emblematic and symbolic République-Beaux arts station, designed by the architect Gilles Neveu and inaugurated in 1983. This station was not chosen by chance, in particular because it drains a flow of nearly 22,000 daily travelers. “We want to improve the customer experience and seduce the traveler by changing the way we look at stations that we no longer even watch”, continues the CEO.

For this, the transporter called on Marine Mouit-Leduc, a designer.

“We are going to act on light, movement and the enhancement of spaces,” she explains.

And without big investments or heavy work, but by cleverly arranging the leds and by playing on the volumes and the colors.

At “Répu”, as we say here, three installations: “infinite mirrors”, “Spartacus sunshine” and “Mots mignon”, the rendering of which varies according to the time of day.

We will let you discover them and Ilévia will be attentive to the returns.

"Depending on the rendering and the perception, the experiment could be extended to two other stations", assures Gilles Fargier.
