The Briton Mark Cavendish won Thursday the 6th stage of the Tour de France run between Tours and Chateauroux, the Dutchman Mathieu van der Poel retaining the yellow jersey.

Cavendish (Deceuninck) beat Belgian Jasper Philipsen (Alpecin) and Frenchman Nacer Bouhanni (Arkea).

This is Cavendish's 32nd stage victory in the Tour de France, his second this year.

He thus finds himself two victories behind Belgian record holder Eddy Merckx.
