The World Health Organization issues recommendations to reduce the spread of "black mold"

The World Health Organization has recommended reducing the use of hormonal drugs and antibiotics to treat mild and moderate cases of Covid-19, in order to prevent infection with the so-called “black mold”.

A spokeswoman for the World Health Organization in Russia, Melita Voinovich, stated that some fungal infections in Covid-19 patients in India may be related to yeasts and others to molds.

She noted that mold, in turn, can cause the appearance of "black fungi" and "aspergillosis" caused by another type of fungus.

And Vojnovic added: “These yeasts and molds are usually found in the environment surrounding the human being, but they only affect people with weak immune systems, such as people with diabetes and other chronic diseases, as well as cancer, and people who have received certain medications for long periods,” noting that Covid-19 weakens immunity;

Voinovich stressed that the World Health Organization recommends reducing and minimizing the disproportionate use of corticosteroids and antibiotics when treating mild and moderate cases of Covid disease, and indicated that corticosteroids actually help save the lives of those infected in difficult cases of the disease, but their use on a large scale can be It causes fungal infections.

India used to record dozens of annual cases of black fungus infection, but this year, coinciding with the Corona virus pandemic, the numbers recorded with this fungus crossed the threshold of 7 thousand infections, with at least nine Indian states declaring that the infection has turned into an epidemic.

The US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention notes that black fungus is the result of mold found in soil and decaying organic matter such as rotting leaves.

People become infected with the yeast infection, of which there are several types, by inhaling fungal cells (spores) that can be spread in hospitals and homes through humidifiers or oxygen bottles containing dirty water.
