At No. 29, Wusi Street, Dongcheng District, Beijing, there stands a red landmark built with red bricks and red tiles, the Red Tower of Peking University. After a hundred years of wind and rain, it has now been renovated.

On the 29th, the "Red Prologue to the Glorious Achievement—Thematic Exhibition of the Peking University Red House and Early Beijing Revolutionary Activities of the Communist Party of China" (hereinafter referred to as the theme exhibition) was officially opened here.

On the opening day, visitors from all walks of life and ages were in an endless stream.

Cultural relics and architecture integrated into the theme exhibition

The Red House of Peking University is called Peking University Red House in full. It was originally the location of Peking University's school department and library. It was the first batch of national key cultural relics protection units.

  Architecture is a solidified history.

Going up the stairs, most of the wooden floor is wrapped in leather, exposing the corners.

Along the corridor, one door, one window, one brick and one stone are the precipitation of history.

The climax of the New Culture Movement was set off here, and it was an important source of the May Fourth Movement and the birthplace of the early Communist Party organization in Beijing.

"The hall, corridors and all public spaces are trying to restore the original appearance of history. This is one of the most important features of the exhibition." According to Hong Maien, director of the Institute of Exhibition Art, Tsinghua University Academy of Fine Arts, this exhibition integrates design language into architecture. In itself, other additional facilities should be hidden as much as possible to avoid damage to the original historical features due to their exposure.

The theme exhibitions are divided into "The failed working class that has experienced various forces to save from the extinction and survive and explore in modern times has begun to step onto the stage of history", "Arouse the national awakening and build the center of the new cultural movement", "Hold high the patriotic banner and form the source of the May Fourth Movement", and "spread revolutionary fire to create Marx The main position of the spread of ism in China's early days" "bringing and preparing for the establishment of the Communist Party of China is one of the main breeding grounds for the party" "Do not forget the original heart and remember the mission" six parts.

1357 cultural relics, 958 pictures, 40 works of art, etc. are distributed in large and small exhibition rooms, forming a magnificent historical picture.

Explainer Zhang Mengyao said that the creation of a historical atmosphere in the entire exhibition gave everyone a sense of being on the scene.

She hopes that with her own voice, visitors can learn more about history in a limited time and fully experience the original intentions of the revolutionary ancestors.

Feel the centuries of grace in the years

The main feature of this theme exhibition is the integration of the old site inside the Red House of Peking University into the visitor stream, and the organic integration of the exhibition content and complement each other.

Li Dazhao's office is the library director's office on the southeast corner of the first floor of the Peking University Red Building.

On the quaint desk, materials such as "Weekly Review" and "New Youth" are neatly arranged.

The instructor introduced that after the Peking University Red Building was completed in 1918, Li Dazhao worked here until December 1922.

There are two rooms inside and outside, with a total of about 50 square meters.

After the May 4th Movement, there have been many symposiums held here to carry out debates on Marxist theoretical issues, and planned to establish the Peking University Marxist Theory Research Association.

In 1920, Li Dazhao met here with Vikingsky, the representative of the Communist International, to study and formulate the establishment of the Communist Party.

In October of that year, Li Dazhao initiated the establishment of the early Communist Party organization in Beijing, named "Communist Party Group".

"Standing here, the scene of the revolutionary ancestors studying, working, thinking and discussing revolutionary causes seems to emerge in front of their eyes." After the visit, a grizzled tourist said in front of the exhibition hall.

The revolutionary site as a whole unveiled

For a century, the site of the early Beijing revolutionary activities of the Communist Party of China represented by the Red Tower at Peking University has witnessed the "age of awakening" of the Chinese nation.

Here, the revolutionary ancestors set off the climax of the New Cultural Movement, launched the organization of the May Fourth Patriotic Movement, and awakened the people’s ideological consciousness; contemplated the establishment of the Communist Party of China and explored the path of the Chinese revolution; established the early Communist Party organization in Beijing and promoted the establishment of a nationwide party organization ; Go deep into the masses of workers and peasants, organize and launch the labor movement, and realize the integration of Marxism with the Chinese labor movement.

Now, after systematic repairs and upgrades, 31 old revolutionary sites have restored their original historical features and have been unveiled as a whole.

At the exhibition site, including middle school students and college students, young people can be seen everywhere, and there is more youthfulness in the vicissitudes of history buildings.

Song Zihang, 17, is a sophomore in Beijing 65th Middle School.

After visiting the theme exhibition, he told reporters that there is a lot of knowledge that cannot be learned in textbooks, and his close contact with history has brought him a deep touch.

"I hope to use the spirit of the revolutionary ancestors to inspire myself, starting from now, starting from small things, starting from myself." (End)
