"Today, June 29, 2021, the US Department of Transportation issued an order proposing a ban on the sale of passenger air tickets ... between the United States and Belarus," RIA Novosti quoted the ministry as saying.

This order is proposed to be extended to flights with a transfer and change of air carrier in a third country.

The ban is based on the State Department's decision that "in light of the re-routing of Ryanair's flight, it is in the foreign policy interest of the United States to restrict transport links between the United States and Belarus."

Discussion of the bill should be completed by July 1.

Earlier, the State Department retained a recommendation for American citizens not to visit Belarus due to the "risk of detention."
