On Tuesday, the Swedish Public Employment Service will present an updated forecast for around 180 occupations up to the year 2026. The forecast analyzes the future prospects for one and five years.

Occupations where there is the least competition for jobs are midwives, doctors, nurses and assistant nurses.

These are future professions, the Swedish Public Employment Service assesses.

Civil engineers, IT specialists, carpenters and electricians are also occupations that have a continued good labor market, according to the forecast.

When it comes to professions that have been affected by the pandemic and the restrictions, things are different.

- In some professions, demand has increased and in other professions it has decreased temporarily.

In the hospitality industry and restaurants, for example, demand has declined and may now begin to pick up speed again.

While professions in healthcare, we see increased pressure on demand, says Ingrid Viklund Ros, labor market analyst at the Swedish Public Employment Service.

Education more important

Education is and will be an increasingly important factor in getting a job.

A completed upper secondary education is usually a basic requirement.

In addition, there are often requirements for either a vocational or university education.

- There are still opportunities for jobs that do not require high school education, but the opportunities are smaller and the competition is greater, says Ingrid Viklund Ros.

Greater competition for jobs is expected in professions in sales, purchasing and marketing, finance and administration as well as culture, while the variation will be great in hotels and restaurants, social work and transport.
