Yesterday, the Dubai Criminal Court began hearing the case of an African (35 years old), who works as an assistant security manager in a Dubai hotel, and is accused of embezzling about 81,000 dirhams from a European female guest in the hotel.

In the investigations of the Public Prosecution, the accused confessed to the accusation against him, indicating that he had been working in the hotel for two years with a salary of 10,000 dirhams, and his job duties required him to inspect the conditions of employees, parking lots and access to rooms.

He added that last April, he entered one of the hotel rooms for a European female guest who had booked the room earlier and then left the country, noting that he was required to check the rooms once a week, and when he entered the room and opened the safe, he found cash in it from different currencies, so he stole 4,500 euros, and a week later He entered the room a second time, opened the safe, and stole 7,000 euros, 20,000 dirhams and $3,000.

He pointed out that he sent part of the money to his family in his home country, through an exchange company, and spent the remaining part inside the country, adding that he received a call during the current month from the director of operations at the hotel, summoning him to come to his office, and he was surprised that the inmate (the victim) had returned. To the state, she reported the amounts stolen from her room. He was confronted with video clips of the hotel's cameras, showing him entering the room, but he insisted on denying the theft, forcing the hotel management to inform the police of the incident.

Investigations by the Public Prosecution showed that this was not the first time that the accused stole cash from a hotel guest, as he had previously embezzled cash from an Asian guest's room as well.
