29 June 2021 "UEFA must consider very carefully" the possibility of playing "the semifinals and the final" of the Europeans "at Wembley" because there is "asymmetry" on the part of the United Kingdom, "which imposes restrictions on British citizens who they travel to the EU, but accept a massive presence of European visitors "to attend the matches.

This was reiterated by the EU vice president, Margaritis Schinas. Even "the idea of a full stadium at a time when we are so worried about the Delta variant" should "make UEFA reflect", said Schinas, adding that "Merkel, Draghi and many MEPs share the same concerns".

Yesterday "I shared with the deputies of the Environment Committee" of the European Parliament, "my personal belief that UEFA must analyze very carefully the situation of the semifinal and final of the European Championships at Wembley", given the emergence of the Delta variant of Covid -19 in Great Britain. The vice president of the European Commission Margaritis Schinas reiterated this today during an online press conference in Brussels.

"It is not a decision that should be taken by the European Commission, nor have we discussed it in the college" of commissioners. But "there will be many people, and the idea of a full stadium at a time when we are so concerned about the presence of the Delta variant gives the message that careful evaluation is needed."

Germany:"Irresponsible decision"

German Interior Minister Horst Seehofer said the British government's decision to increase the number of spectators at the remaining Euro 2020 matches in London is "irresponsible". The German press reports it. With both the semi-finals and the final taking place at London's Wembley Stadium, Seehofer hopes to see fewer crowds in the stands for fear of spreading the highly contagious Delta variant of the coronavirus that is now prevalent in the UK.

Wembley hosted around 40,000 fans for tonight's round of 16 clash between England and Germany, roughly double the number that could watch the group stage matches.

Last week the UK government announced that capacity at Wembley would further increase, to around 60,000 for the later stages of the tournament.

The German government has asked for a reduction in the number of spectators inside the Wembley stadium in London, the scene of the semi-finals and the final of Euro 2020. The reason is the increase in Covid cases in the country, over 20 thousand in the last 24 hours , determined by the spread of the Delta variant.

Seehofer then urged the British government and UEFA to review the rule by drastically reducing the number of fans admitted to the stadium, assuming a capacity of 20%.
