• The transition process in the PSOE-A, a suit tailored to Juan Espadas

An internal reform endowed the PSOE in 2018 with a

new federal regulation

that came to develop its statute and establish the primary model for the election of its leaders: both the candidates and the general secretaries.

The renewal at the head of the Andalusian PSOE has put to the test the operation of this double system of participation of the militancy in the election of their leaders and representatives and has allowed to conclude that the model is as complex as it is useless.

Because, in the event of internal fragmentation, the result of

this double consultation

can lead to a political monstrosity that is difficult to manage and end up in that bicephaly from which the PSOE flees like the plague.

The application of the model after the crisis generated by Susana Díaz has made it clear to what extent the rules, protocols and schedules are to be applied when it is necessary and to force them at will.

The PSOE executive decided that the

Federal Congress would

be held in October of this year, after delaying it due to the pandemic, which also forced a delay in regional and local congresses. But, as this delay meant giving Susana Díaz more oxygen and bringing the relief in a dangerous way closer to the celebration of the Andalusian elections scheduled for 2022, from Ferraz a pressure movement was promoted to advance the primaries to choose the candidate for the Board, with a double objective: to grant the virtual winner a greater margin of time to consolidate and to clearly separate the process of choosing the candidate from the election of the general secretary.

Everyone knows that Juan Espadas, who was chosen by Ferraz to succeed Susana Díaz, does not control the backstage of the game. And winning a congress requires

managing certain springs

. Ferraz put him, therefore, on a platter a tailored process that allowed him to fight for the candidacy first and, later, with the support of the militancy, to fight to control the party congress.

If the internal environment in the Andalusian PSOE were minimally breathable and Ferraz was not pressing all the time, the reasonable thing would be to allow Susana Díaz to

continue leading the party until the renewal of the executive is due

. Cohabitation between civilized leaders within the same party should occur without major problems, especially since it is clear that, in the Diaz-Espadas tandem, it is perfectly known who is out. But the federal leadership does not just trust the former president and have once again maneuvered to force her withdrawal, again advancing the times, now to accelerate the replacement at the head of the PSOE-A.

In the morning, Espadas and Susana Díaz insisted on transferring an image of normality and good

vibes

. And, in the afternoon, Ferraz again intruded, leaking an open secret: That Susana Díaz has already accepted to be a senator by

appointment of the autonomous community

. It has a door and date of departure in the Andalusian PSOE, therefore, after the Federal Executive has decided that it

wants her dead and wants it now

, returning the sentence with which Susana Díaz herself tried to get rid of Pedro Sánchez in that stormy chapter (October 2016) of the history of the PSOE from whose hangover the Andalusian socialists have not yet fully disposed of.

If Susana Díaz represents the last link of the old Andalusian PSOE, the one that decided the line of succession by direct appointment, the new PSOE of Juan Espadas is too similar to the one that is conditioned and subjected to

the times and interests of the Federal Executive,

which is who historically put and removed general secretaries and presidents of the Junta in Andalusia.
