This Monday, Virgile Bourdon, suspected of the murder of his companion Laura Fay on August 6, 2018 and incarcerated at the Mont-de-Marsan prison since January 25, 2019, was found dead in his cell.

His trial before the Assises des Landes was to open in January 2022, after the rejection of a cassation appeal lodged by the person concerned.

In a press release, the Mont-de-Marsan prosecutor's office explains that this Monday at 9.25 am, a prison supervisor discovered the inanimate prisoner in his individual cell, lying on his bed.

“A cardiac massage was performed, first by the supervisors, then by the emergency services.

Despite the care procedures thus implemented, death was declared at 10:15 am by a doctor from Samu, ”writes Olivier Janson, public prosecutor.

No clue for suicide

Aged 35, the young man presented no known pathology.

He had been seen that morning and appeared to be in normal shape.

A procedure in search of the causes of death, systematic after the death of a detained person, has been opened.

“The first elements collected do not highlight at this stage any clue likely to direct the investigation towards a passage to the suicidal act.

In particular, no writing to this effect has been found and the detainee does not appear to have made suicidal remarks, ”the prosecutor said.

An autopsy will be performed later this week, as part of the investigation.
