Osapp: "100 Gom agents sent"

About 100 men from Gom, the mobile operative group of the penitentiary police, were sent to the prison of Santa Maria Capua Vetere. This was announced by the autonomous prison police union Osapp. According to the regional trade union secretaries from Campania, Vincenzo Palmieri and Luigi Castaldo, "operational difficulties persist because the lack of personnel is chronic and is felt to the detriment of everyone's safety".

According to Palmieri and Castaldo "the penitentiary police must be equipped with special tools: tasers, individual service cameras in critical events, jammers and other strategic instruments to make the work of prison police transparent, which is often questioned for a remuneration that it hardly gives the right to survival and makes legal protection more difficult

Unions: "We ask for a comparison on what happened"

The heads of the Department of Penitentiary Administration, Chief Bernardo Petralia, together with his Deputy Roberto Tartaglia, last night visited the most serious agent, who had been discharged from the Caserta hospital. Gesture appreciated by the unions who underline that this is the first time in the history of the Penitentiary Police that the leaders of the DAP go to visit an injured policeman. But the serious episodes that occurred inside and outside the prison (where about fifty agents demonstrated yesterday morning) - explains Pompeo Mannone, head of the Fns Cisl, the National Federation of CISL Security: "they need in-depth analysis and resolutions and we ask the Head of the Dap for a discussion table also because what has happened requires an in-depth reflection on the management of prisons and on the priority of the overall protection of the Prison Police ".

Gratteri: "Devastating revolts for open cells and promiscuity practiced in the institutes"

On what happened yesterday in Santa Maria Capua Vetere, the Procurator of the Republic of Catanzaro, Nicola Gratteri, who is said to have intervened agreement with the crackdown on the Dap to tighten the high-security prison regime. '' The riots were also possible because the cells were open, even in the high security wards. In these, not the chiefs are imprisoned, but the executors, who have a normal admiration for the chiefs and are servants and tools of the chiefs - he explains - The riots in prisons have been possible and so devastating precisely because of the open cells and the promiscuity practiced. in institutions ''.

For Gratteri '' we are still in a moment of confusion '' in prison management. '' But I see some corrections are being made. I think that the right way would be to finally pose the problem of the new prison building. The time has come to start building new prisons. In the post-coronavirus phase, many resources are being made available for the economy, for infrastructures. There is money that was not there yesterday: well, now is the time to build four new prisons in Italy, distributed between north, center and south, for 20,000 places. It would be the end of prison overcrowding. ''

Rosato: "Solidarity with agents, victims of disorganization of the prison system"

Indignation over what happened in the Caserta prison was also expressed by many politicians. "It is not an American film, but the prison of Santa Maria Capua Vetere. Dramatic images that show how, in a place that should be of re-education, there are criminals who continue their activity by subjugating and threatening other inmates". So Ettore Rosato on his Facebook page while commenting on the images of the riots in prison. "I have come to bring my solidarity to the prison police staff - underlines the President of Italia Viva - often victim of these attacks, of staff gaps and of the disorganization of the prison system".

Brothers of Italy: "Question to the Minister of Justice. Commendation to agents"

"Brothers of Italy asks Minister Bonafede if it is his intention to give a solemn commendation to the body of the Penitentiary Police at the prison of Santa Maria Capua in Vetere for the high professionalism shown in containing the prison revolt of April 5". This was declared by the deputies of the Brothers of Italy Andrea Delmastro, Head of Justice of Fdi, Giovanni Donzelli, Emanuele Prisco and Galeazzo Bignami, announcing the deposition of a question to the Minister of Justice.

"During the revolt", the Brothers of Italy deputies continue, "150 prisoners armed with knives and hot oil were effectively and professionally contained by the men and women of the prison police. While nothing is known about the outcome of the investigations against the rioters, the Public Prosecutor's Office of Santa Maria Capua a Vetere has notified 44 notices of guarantee to as many agents of the penitentiary Police. The judiciary should take its course, but also the politics must take its course and the Minister Bonafede - maybe and by mistake - strike a shot, defending the honor and professionalism of our men in uniform and conferring the solemn commendation. Someone in Italy, in addition to defending Cain, must also be on Abel's side. We ", conclude the deputies of Fdi, "we are without ifs and buts, alongside those who, in uniform, contain the revolts and not the prisoners who organize them ".
