On June 28, the Presnensky Court of Moscow is to choose a preventive measure for Liu Jun, whom the Investigative Committee suspects of trafficking in children.
Earlier, the media reported that Liu Jun and his wife were being treated for infertility, in 2019 they came to Russia to participate in the surrogacy program.
In the summer of 2020, police officers found in one of the apartments five babies who were born to surrogate mothers.
Then a criminal case on trafficking in children was opened and several people were arrested, including three doctors who are being held in a pre-trial detention center and do not admit their guilt.
One of those five children was Liu Jun's child (his paternity was confirmed by examination).
After the arrest of his father, he was sent to the hospital.
According to media reports, out of those five babies, two families returned their children, two were sent to orphanages, having entered the names of surrogate mothers in their birth certificates.
In June of this year, State Duma deputies, headed by Vice-Speaker Pyotr Tolstoy, submitted to the lower house of parliament a bill introducing a ban on surrogacy services for foreigners in Russia.
Changes are planned to be made to the Family Code, as well as to the current laws “On the basics of protecting the health of citizens in the Russian Federation”, “On acts of civil status”, “On citizenship of the Russian Federation”.
