On June 28, China's first large-scale scientific facility, the high-energy synchrotron radiation source (HEPS), which was built in Beijing's Huairou Science City, officially installed its first scientific research equipment electron gun.

HEPS is constructed by the Institute of High Energy Physics, Chinese Academy of Sciences (Institute of High Energy Energy, Chinese Academy of Sciences). It is one of China’s "13th Five-Year Plan" major technological infrastructure projects. After completion, it will become China’s first high-energy synchrotron radiation light source and the world’s highest brightness One of the fourth-generation synchrotron radiation light sources, providing an important support platform for original and breakthrough innovative research in the fields of basic science and engineering science.

According to the Institute of High Energy, Chinese Academy of Sciences, the installation of the first scientific research equipment marks the official entry of the HEPS project into the equipment installation stage. The first installed accelerator equipment electron gun is located at the end of the linear accelerator of the high-energy synchrotron radiation source. It is the source of accelerated electron generation and adopts national technology. Independent design and domestic processing.

The electron gun is composed of four parts: the gun body, the ceramic barrel, the anti-halo ring, and the cathode grid assembly. The cathode grid assembly is the key "neck" part of the electron gun.

The Institute of High Energy of the Chinese Academy of Sciences laid out ahead of schedule, through years of technical research, overcome many difficulties, solved the problems of cathode emission and micro-scale grid preparation, deformation and welding, and basically realized the localization of cathode grid components.

HEPS is also the core device of the Huairou Science City jointly built by the Chinese Academy of Sciences and Beijing. It was supported by the National Development and Reform Commission and started construction in June 2019 with a construction period of 6.5 years.

At present, the HEPS construction and installation project has completed about 70% of the total engineering volume. It is expected that all the individual buildings will be delivered to use at the beginning of 2022, and the HEPS will be fully transferred to the equipment installation stage.
