China News Service, Beijing, June 28 (Lang Lang) The Tuotuo River, the source of the Yangtze River, has a high-cold terrain and thin air. It is a "life forbidden zone" in people's mouth.

As a weatherman at the Tuotuohe Weather Station in Qinghai Province, Miao Peilin has been here for 10 years.

Joining the party is a natural thing

More than 20 years ago, as a child, Miao Peilin often lay on the table and watched his father, a weatherman, hand-painted weather charts. At that time, he probably would not have thought that the thread his father wrote also affected his past. And the future.

This line started from Wudaoliang and Tuotuohe on the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau. The red and blue pencils traced the drawing inch by inch, showing changes in the wind and clouds, the bright moon and the clear sky, and it was written into the life of Miao Peilin bit by bit.

He grew up listening to the story of the desolation of the Tuotuo River. Until 2012, he stepped onto the plateau and became a part of it. To this day, at the age of 32, he became the deputy head of the Tuotuohe Meteorological Station.

Just like being in meteorological work under the influence of his father, for Miao Peilin, whose family is all party members, joining the party is a natural thing.

In 2016, he submitted an application to join the party and will officially become a party member in 2020.

Tanggula Mountain means "a mountain that an eagle can't fly over" in Mongolian.

The Tuotuohe Meteorological Station has been here since 1956, capturing rain and clouds on the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau.

The Tuotuohe Weather Station at an altitude of 4539 meters is the highest radiosonde station in the world.

The terrain here is high and cold, the air is thin, the year-round freezing period is as long as 7 months, and the climate is harsh.

Recording the atmospheric operation and climatic conditions in the Tanggula Mountain area of the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau is the most important task of the weather station and all 12 employees.

go!

Go to Qinghai-Tibet Plateau to fly balloons

Regardless of the weather, at 7:15 every morning and evening, Miao Peilin and his colleagues have to adjust the digital radiosonde, hang it on the hydrogen balloon, and then run to the designated location, and wait for it to rise to an altitude of 30,000 meters.

If all goes well, the local temperature, wind speed, air pressure, humidity and other meteorological data will be immediately transmitted to the background, and transmitted to the China Meteorological Administration as soon as possible, and then exchanged with meteorological departments around the world.

Once this time is missed, it means that in the global data exchange that day, the atmospheric operation and climate conditions in the Tanggula Mountain area of the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau are blank.

However, it is not an easy task to raise a 2.5-meter-diameter hydrogen balloon to an altitude of 30,000 meters on the plateau.

A balloon that is lifted up must have at least 10 minutes of data to be considered valid. However, due to the harsh local climate, the balloon may be hit by lightning during this process, or the balloon may explode due to friction between the balloon and the ground.

It is common to release balloons 3, 4 or more times during detection.

"Every year from October to May of the following year, it is windy. Bad weather is commonplace, and I am used to it." Miao Peilin said.

The long-term hypoxia and hyperreactivity in the past ten years has caused his memory to decline, and he does not remember the "deeper impressions" of those other people.

Tuotuo River has only two seasons in winter and summer, with an average annual temperature of -4.2℃.

In the strong wind season, strong winds above level 9 will overturn the colored steel roofs of the staff dormitories and warehouses of the weather station.

Sometimes, half of the roof was lifted. In order to prevent the crumbling roof from hurting people, Miao Peilin had to climb the roof against the strong wind and cut off small pieces of colored steel.

Moreover, this matter cannot be delayed, and there is no such thing as "waiting for the wind to decrease," because once the roof is smashed down, someone is injured and it is too late to be sent to the hospital.

——The nearest hospital to the weather station is 450 kilometers away.

"Unfortunate" rather than "hard" life

Before setting foot on the plateau with his suitcase on his back, Miao Peilin made full psychological preparations. From the descriptions of the old people, he briefly outlined the hard life in Tuotuohe.

But after he really takes root here, he is more willing to describe it as "suffering".

"The material conditions of life here are still okay, but there is no bustling city, no friends, and sometimes I feel a little lonely."

The working method of the weather station determines that it is impossible for the weathermen to achieve a nine-to-five working rhythm. Everything about their work and life is solved in the station.

After all, the only way of transportation up the mountain is the train. This train is set up to facilitate the internal employees of the railway to commute to and from get off work, and the weathermen just rub the car.

There is no concept of a week here. There are only vacations. 12 people take turns on duty. They stay on the mountain for two months and take a one-month vacation. It is necessary to ensure that there are about 6 people in the station.

And this pattern also determines that Miao Peilin and his wife, who is also a Tuotuohe weatherman, cannot reunite often.

In order to take turns to take care of his one-year-old son, he and his wife "all year round, the total time they can meet is more than ten days."

Difficulties in work can be overcome, and there is no way to solve the problem of family reunion.

Miao Peilin’s WeChat avatar is a photo of his son, but sometimes, he is afraid to make videos with his children. He is either reluctant to turn it off, or the children cry after turning off the video. Miao Peilin feels uncomfortable.

But he still didn't want to call it a pity for his son.

"This is something he has to experience, he will understand us when he grows up."

At the right age of youth, have you ever regretted when you arrive at the weather station with the most difficult environment?

"When I am here, I will never regret what I choose to do." Miao Peilin said.

"If there is gain, there must be loss. Don't take this as a pity." (End)
