June 27, 2021 There are over 800 Spanish students, coming from eight autonomous communities of the country, who contracted the coronavirus during their recent stays in Mallorca: the newspaper El Pais reports, underlining that the number of young people currently in quarantine has risen from 2,000 yesterday at 3,000.

The Ministry of Health confirmed that it is monitoring the mega-outbreak and has identified 268 students who are still on the island and who may have had direct or indirect contact with their peers who have returned home and tested positive for swabs.

The Community of Madrid is the most affected with 363 infected students and another 3,000 exposed to the mega outbreak and therefore forced to quarantine. Infections in the last two weeks related to trips to Mallorca have also been confirmed in the Valencian Community, Murcia, Castilla-La Mancha, Galicia, Catalonia, the Basque Country and Aragon.

The authorities of the Balearic island have announced an investigation to ascertain whether a series of hotels in the Llucmajor beach area and local ones in the capital Palma have followed the anti-Covid measures. The mask is no longer mandatory on the outside but only if it is possible to maintain social distancing.

For now, several sources of contagion have been identified and a file has been opened for non-compliance with anti Covid measures against the organizers of a Reggaeton music concert held in the bullfighting arena in Palma de Mallorca.

Every year, around 12,000 students from different regions choose Mallorca as a destination to celebrate the end of their studies. The trips are organized by various specialized agencies, such as 'Tu Fin de Curso' or 'Xcape', well known among students, who annually sell all-inclusive packages - pool and boat parties included - for less than 400 euros.

Majorca, meanwhile, is preparing to receive a wave of British tourists from next Wednesday after London has put it on the 'green' list destinations.
