The outgoing president in New Aquitaine, Alain Rousset, who is running for a fifth term, comes out ahead on the evening of the first round of regional elections, credited with around 29% of the vote.

While it was neck and neck with the candidate of the national rally Edwige Diaz, it is clearly ahead since it would be about 19%.

Secretary of State for Veterans Geneviève Darrieussecq, candidate for LREM and Modem, comes in third position with around 15%.

The LR candidate Nicolas Florian achieves a very disappointing score with around 12%, while Virginie Calmels, at the head of a union list in 2015, had achieved 27.19%.

The EELV candidate Nicolas Thierry, vice-president of the region during the previous term of office, would be around 11%, and thus double the score of the Greens in 2015 (5.6%).

Note also the good score of the candidate of the Movement of Rurality and Resist with Jean Lassalle, Eddie Puyjalon, which would be around 8%, when the polls gave it below 5%.

Nicolas Thierry, had not yet taken a position Sunday evening, indicating however on France 3 that a "rally can only be built on a common and strong political will.

The phones between the two camps should heat up until Tuesday evening, before the filing of the lists for the second round.
