THE ESSENTIAL

  • This Sunday marks the first round of regional and departmental elections.

They are officially 19,084 candidates to present themselves to the 1,757 seats of regional advisers in 15 regions (13 regions in metropolitan France, Guadeloupe and Réunion).

  • The regional and departmental advisers are elected for six years, but the term that ends has been shortened by six months to return to the normal rhythm of the elections and avoid collision with the presidential campaign of May 2022.

  • This double election serves as a dress rehearsal for the main political organizations, one year before the presidential election.
