In the 1970s and 80s, tennis courts were built like never before.

Today, many outdoor tennis courts have fallen into disrepair or have been converted into skateboard ramps, basketball courts or floorball courts.

But at the same time, a new construction boom is taking place in the county - the establishment of padel halls.

Recently, a hall was inaugurated in Malå, a municipality where tennis has previously been a large and popular sport.

Will the paddle hall negatively affect interest in tennis?

- No I do not think so.

I rather think that the paddle can increase the interest in racket sports again, says Stefan Marklund, one of the people behind Malå paddle.

Padelgymnasium starts

Next autumn, Thoren Business School in Umeå will start a paddle high school in collaboration with Padel Performance.

There, they have noticed the interest thanks to the initiative Ungpadel which they ran in collaboration with Ersboda Folkets Hus.

And now they want to expand that hall.

- We have both girl and boy groups and it is a huge interest.

It is important that Umeå, which is Sweden's best sports city, gets young people into the paddle so it is not just middle-aged middle managers who play, says Peter Sjöström at Padel Performance in a statement.
