Prime Minister Jean Castex received his second dose of AstraZeneca vaccine on Saturday and should be fully immune to Covid-19 in two weeks, Matignon told AFP.

The head of government had received his first dose on March 19 under the watchful eye of the cameras at the Bégin hospital in Saint-Mandé, near Paris.

The episode was highly publicized, broadcast live on news channels.

It was at the time, in the middle of the third wave, to reassure the French about the effects of the Swedish-British vaccine, the use of which had been briefly suspended after the reporting of rare but serious side effects, such as formation of blood clots.

Saturday, as the epidemic recedes and France is preparing to end the curfew regime, it is in all discretion that Jean Castex received in Matignon his second injection of AstraZeneca, a vaccine reserved for people 55 years and over.

The Prime Minister was released Wednesday from a period of seven days in solitary confinement after having been in contact with his wife.
