For her first semi-final in a WTA tournament for almost two years, the French Alizé Cornet (63rd in the world) lost on Saturday in Berlin against the Swiss Belinda Bencic, seeded N.5, in two sets 7- 5, 6-4.

On the Berlin turf, the 31-year-old player had achieved the feat in the previous round by overthrowing the former world No. 1, the Spaniard Garbiñe Muguruza.

Bencic, 12th in the WTA standings, will face Sunday in the final the winner of the second semi-final between the No. 7 seed, Victoria Azarenka, against the qualifier Liudmila Samsonova.
