At the national level, the Liberals have previously made statements that they want to permanently phase out the mining industry in Sweden.

On Saturday, the Liberals in Sölvesborg announced that they had reviewed the matter during a meeting and now choose to support the party's demands for closure.

In a press release, Roger Klerestam listed several reasons why Sweden's mink farms should be closed down.

Among other things, that the activity involves poor animal husbandry, that there is no market for fur in Sweden and that one should look to future infection risks after seeing what happened to the coronavirus.

Want to see compensation for traders

If the state does as the Liberals want and bans mining in the country, then the Liberals believe that compensation should be given to the farmers.

The Liberals also believe that the land that is now used for mink breeding during decommissioning can be used for several different purposes, such as housing, agriculture or electricity production.

- The Liberals in Sölvesborg want our municipality to have a good reputation as an environmentally friendly and pleasant municipality for everyone who comes into contact with Blekinge's pearl, Klerestam concludes his statement.
