According to Mia Ramklint, surveys in Swedish schools show that about 35-40 percent of the responding students have self-harmed a single time, and that around 10-15 percent have done so repeatedly.
"The brain gets busy"
Injury to oneself may seem unthinkable to some, but for people suffering from severe mental illness, it becomes a way to deal with anxiety.
