A highly symbolic meeting in a context of strong tension.

On June 16, the eyes of the whole world were on Geneva, where the first meeting between US President Joe Biden and his Russian counterpart Vladimir Poutin was held.

Very critical of the Kremlin since his arrival at the White House, Joe Biden opposes Russia on many issues including the imprisonment of the opponent Alexeï Navalny, the annexation of Crimea, Belarus and even China.

If the new American president is determined to mark his difference from Donald Trump, who was credited with a certain proximity with Vladimir Putin, he is not the first American president to have trouble with the Russian leader, like the underlines the American cartoonist Kal.

No concrete announcement emerged from the meeting between Joe Biden and Vladimir Putin and skepticism remains deep between the two leaders, who nevertheless agreed to sit around the table and raise the issues of disagreement.
