Maksim Reznik is accused of drug offenses and now risks up to three years in prison.

Reznik denies the allegations.

Reznik was arrested on June 17, the day after authorities announced the pre-election date for St. Petersburg City Council.

He had previously announced that he plans to run in the election.

In recent years, Reznik has participated in several protests, and openly criticized the current governor of St. Petersburg.

He has also been the subject of soiling of Russian news sites as independent newspapers calling for magic factories.
