On Thursday, the Israeli occupation authorities charged a member of the occupation police with "recklessness and recklessness", accused of killing an autistic Palestinian, Iyad Al-Hallaq, in occupied Jerusalem in May last year.

The Israeli Broadcasting Corporation said, "The Police Investigation Department submitted to the District Court, in Jerusalem, an indictment against a Border Police policeman, accusing him of shooting the 32-year-old Palestinian youth Iyad Al-Hallaq in the city a year ago, which led to his death."

She added that the policeman had been charged with recklessness leading to death.

The Israeli Broadcasting Corporation quoted the prosecution as saying, "The incident is very painful and the decision to bring the suspected policeman to court was taken after an in-depth examination of the evidence, taking all circumstances into consideration, and listening to the accused policeman's appeals."

The Israeli authorities have not yet revealed the killer's name.

And policemen shot Al-Hallaq, who is disabled, while he was on his way to a special education school in the Old City of Jerusalem, killing him on the spot.

At first, the occupation police said that they suspected a "suspicious object in the hand of the barber before he was shot", but later admitted that he was not armed.

At the time, one of Al-Hallaq's teachers had indicated that she had shouted at the police officers that Al-Hallaq had a disability.

The victim's family said that his mental age was similar to that of an eight-year-old. Witnesses reported that al-Hallaq panicked after police officers shouted for him.

His family members also said at the time that he used to put a card on his chest that said that he had special needs.

human rights concerns

For his part, the lawyers for the Al-Hallaq family considered that filing the indictment against the policeman is an "important step, but it is not sufficient to achieve justice", describing the indictment as "poor".

The crew said in a written statement, "a police officer to provide a deadly border guard martyr is an important step, but not sufficient to achieve even a fraction of the justice lost in this case. This came very late step after more than a year after this crime ".

He added that the indictment presented by the Public Prosecution today does not meet even the minimum requirements in this case, as its formulation in this way constitutes another cover for what official institutions are doing to cover up the crime practiced by the police against the Palestinians.

"We express our fear of attempts to circumvent proper legal procedures, with the aim of protecting the criminal and violating the rights of the victim of the crime, the martyr Iyad Al-Hallaq," he added.

The legal team called on the Israeli authorities to immediately reveal the identity of the killer after submitting the indictment.

He added: We will continue to exercise our efforts to achieve the rights of martyr Iyad and his grieving family, and the rights of all victims of the Israeli police.
