The first elements of the investigation opened by the police after the fatal road accident which occurred this Thursday morning seem to confirm the responsibility of the motorist. At around 8:15 am this Thursday, a 43-year-old cyclist died while riding her electric bicycle on the Taillis roundabout in Cesson-Sévigné, near Rennes. The hearing of several witnesses and of the driver of the Renault Clio suggests that the motorist "would not have seen" the woman cycling on the cycle lane of the roundabout. She allegedly hit it when leaving the roundabout in the direction of Cesson, when she was coming from the Rennes ring road. The victim would then have remained trapped under the vehicle.

Alerted, the firefighters were unable to resuscitate the cyclist, who died on the spot.

The victim lived in Cesson-Sévigné.

Contacted, the mayor Jean-Pierre Savignac did not wish to speak about this tragedy, preferring to send his condolences and his support to the family of the victim.

An investigation was opened to determine the circumstances of the tragedy.

Screenings were carried out on the driver, particularly shocked by the tragedy.

In 2019, 123 accidents involving cyclists were recorded in Ille-et-Vilaine, resulting in the death of three people.

The prefecture then sounded the alarm, explaining that "the number of cycling victims has doubled in ten years" even if the figure seemed to stabilize for two years.

The number of cyclists has increased sharply in the Breton capital over the past two years.
