Foreign media: 4 Chinese workers were kidnapped by gunmen in Nigeria. Police have launched a search and rescue of hostages
[Global Network Report] Agence France-Presse reported that the Nigerian police said on the 17th local time that gunmen kidnapped four Chinese railway construction workers in the southwestern part of the country and killed one police guard.
According to the report, Nigerian local police spokesman Abimora Oyemi said that the attack occurred in the Alaagba area of Ogun State on the 16th local time when Chinese workers were ambushed.
"Four Chinese citizens working on a railway construction site in the Aragba area were kidnapped by gunmen who shot and killed their police guards." Oyemi said.
The report also said that the spokesperson said that the police had launched a search for the kidnappers to rescue the hostages.
The report mentioned that Chinese companies are carrying out infrastructure construction projects worth billions of dollars in Nigeria, including mining, railways, airports and highways.
Kidnapping and extortion used to be concentrated in the oil-producing southern Nigeria, but has recently spread to other parts of the country.
