Economically developed cities rely on high-quality social public resources and good employment opportunities to form a strong attraction to the floating population.

In the past ten years, which cities have the largest increase in population?

CBN reporters combed through the seven-person population data released by various regions and found that since 2010, the permanent population of 32 cities has increased by more than 1 million, and the total population increase of these 32 cities has reached 69.99 million.

Among them, there are 20 in the east coast and 12 in the central and western regions.

Shenzhen, Guangzhou, Chengdu, Xi'an, Zhengzhou, Hangzhou, Chongqing, Changsha, Wuhan and Foshan have become the top ten cities with the largest population growth.

Over a million people in 32 cities

In terms of provinces, these 32 cities are distributed in 20 provinces.

Guangdong has the most, with six seats, namely Shenzhen, Guangzhou, Foshan, Dongguan, Huizhou and Zhongshan.

These 6 cities are all located in the developed areas of the Pearl River Delta.

Among them, Shenzhen, Guangzhou, and Foshan are among the top ten cities in terms of population increase in the country.

The population of Guangdong, the largest economic province, has increased by 21.709 million in the past ten years, which is far ahead of the country, with a total population of 126 million.

Since it surpassed Henan for the first time to become the most populous province in 2007, Guangdong's population has ranked first in the country for 14 consecutive years.

Data show that Guangdong has a total floating population of 52,066,200.

Among the floating population, the inflow population from other provinces was 29.622 million, and the floating population in the province was 22.44 million.

Given the influx of large numbers of people, Guangdong's demographic dividend is still more prominent.

After Guangdong, Zhejiang, the fourth largest economic province, and Jiangsu, the second largest economic province, have three cities each with a population increase of more than 1 million in ten years.

Among them, the three cities in Zhejiang are Hangzhou, Ningbo and Jinhua.

Although Hangzhou’s population increase is not as prominent as in some central and western capital cities such as Xi’an and Chengdu, Hangzhou still has 3.2356 million in ten years, given that there are planned separate cities in the province such as Ningbo and Jinhua, a major e-commerce city. The increase of people, the performance is very eye-catching.

The three cities in Jiangsu are Suzhou, Nanjing and Wuxi.

Among them, Suzhou's ten-year growth rate reached 2,282,300, ranking 11th among major cities, and its total population continues to rank second among cities in the Yangtze River Delta, but its leading edge with Hangzhou is shrinking.

Nanjing’s ten-year population increase was 1.31 million, and the current total population is 9,314,700. It is the only city with a permanent population of less than 10 million among the top ten cities in my country’s economic aggregate.

Fujian, Shandong and Hebei each have two cities with population growth exceeding 1 million in ten years.

The data shows that the two cities in Fujian are Xiamen and Fuzhou, and the two cities in Shandong are Qingdao and Jinan, both of which are a combination of cities listed in the separate plan + provincial capital cities.

The two cities in Hebei are Langfang and Shijiazhuang.

The total population growth of 18 cities in these 6 provinces exceeded 1 million in ten years.

The other 14 cities are located in 14 provinces, of which all the capital cities of the 6 central provinces are included.

8 ordinary prefecture-level cities are outstanding

From the perspective of city categories, of the 32 cities, municipalities directly under the Central Government, provincial capital cities, and cities specifically designated in the state plan account for three-quarters, while there are only 8 ordinary prefecture-level cities, namely Foshan, Dongguan, Huizhou, Zhongshan, Jinhua, Suzhou, Wuxi and Langfang is all located in the eastern coastal area.

In other words, in the central and western regions, all cities with population growth exceeding one million in ten years are provincial capitals or municipalities directly under the Central Government.

These 8 ordinary prefecture-level cities are located in the three major economic circles.

Among them, the Pearl River Delta occupies half, and there are 4 in Foshan, Dongguan, Huizhou and Zhongshan.

On the one hand, these cities themselves have very developed industries; on the other hand, the spillover effects of first-tier cities, Shenzhen and Guangzhou, have been obvious in recent years.

Take Dongguan as an example. In 2020, the permanent population of Dongguan will exceed the 10 million mark for the first time, making it the third most populous city in Guangdong Province with a permanent population of more than 10 million after Guangzhou and Shenzhen.

From the perspective of regional distribution, the Linshen plate, located in the south of Dongguan, has grown very fast. In recent years, Shenzhen's population and industries have spilled over to Dongguan.

In the Yangtze River Delta, there are three ordinary prefecture-level cities in Suzhou, Wuxi and Jinhua, with a population increase of over one million in ten years.

The reasons for the population growth of Suzhou and Wuxi are similar to those of Foshan and Dongguan. Not only are their industries developed, but they have also been significantly driven by the Shanghai Overseas spillover in recent years.

Jinhua’s population has increased by 1.689 million in the past ten years, ranking third in Zhejiang, a small gap with Ningbo, which is second.

In terms of growth rate, Jinhua's population has increased by 31.5% over the past ten years, second only to Hangzhou and the second highest in Zhejiang.

Tang Hairu, deputy chairman of the Expert Committee of Hangzhou Planning Commission, believes that the main driving force of Jinhua's rapid growth is Yiwu.

Yiwu belongs to the Jinhua area. It used to be the capital of small commodities. Now it is also actively transforming into e-commerce. The number of express delivery and e-commerce live broadcast are outstanding.

In the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei urban agglomeration, Langfang’s ten-year population increase has also exceeded one million, ranking second after Beijing in the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei urban agglomeration.

Niu Fengrui, a researcher at the Urban Development and Environmental Research Center of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, analyzed to a reporter from China Business News that first-tier cities have a strong role in driving radiation.

For example, Langfang is close to Beijing. In the process of Beijing's function overflow, Langfang has benefited a lot, and its population growth has exceeded that of Shijiazhuang, the capital of Hebei.

Peng Peng, executive chairman of the Guangdong Institutional Reform Research Association, analyzed by CBN reporters that there are particularly many economically strong cities in the three economic circles, including first-tier cities and new first-tier cities, thus forming a resource aggregation effect, and the overall urban agglomeration is very strong.

The 10 cities have the largest increase

Statistics show that the top ten cities with the largest population growth in the past decade are Shenzhen, Guangzhou, Chengdu, Xi'an, Zhengzhou, Hangzhou, Chongqing, Changsha, Wuhan and Foshan.

Among these ten major cities, 4 are in the east and 6 are in the Midwest.

In the eastern coastal areas, in addition to provincial capitals, there are often cities with separate plans and major economic cities that will attract more people, and overall, a certain amount of diversion will occur.

In contrast, several powerful provincial capitals in the central and western regions are often single-tier core cities in the provinces where they are located, and they have a significant agglomeration of the population of the province.

Among them, Shenzhen's increase in the past ten years reached 7,136,500 people, leading the way in major cities.

On the one hand, Shenzhen's high-tech industries have developed rapidly in recent years, and the development of emerging industries has gathered a large population of people.

On the other hand, Shenzhen's threshold for settlement is the loosest among the four first-tier cities.

In addition to Shenzhen, Guangzhou has also increased by 5.9758 million people in the past ten years, and the total has reached 18.6766 million people.

Chengdu, Xi'an and Zhengzhou, the three powerful provincial capitals, rank three to five in increments.

Among them, the population increase of Chengdu reached 5.8189 million, which is very small with Guangzhou.

Judging from the ten-year growth rate of 32 cities, the 10 cities with the highest growth rates are Shenzhen, Xi'an, Guangzhou, Xiamen, Zhengzhou, Changsha, Zhongshan, Chengdu, Guiyang and Hangzhou.

Xi'an has not only increased to 4,485,100 people in ten years, but also has a growth rate of 52.97%, which is second only to Shenzhen.

The total population of Shaanxi Province, where Xi’an is located, is less than 40 million. However, Xi’an is the leading city in the northwest, and its surrounding area does not have a central city that can match Xi’an. In addition, the strength of Xi’an colleges and universities ranks fifth in the country. Xi'an has a particularly strong ability to gather population in the surrounding areas.

The five cities of Guangzhou, Xiamen, Zhengzhou, Changsha, and Zhongshan have also increased by more than 40% in ten years.

Among them, Henan, where Zhengzhou is located, is the province with the largest registered population in my country, with a registered population of over 100 million and a permanent population of 99.36 million, with a large hinterland.

Changsha, the provincial capital of the central region, has increased by 3 million people in ten years, an increase of 42.64%, and its total population has exceeded 10 million, reaching 10.047,900, making it the third provincial capital city in the central region that has exceeded the 10 million population.

In recent years, Changsha has developed rapidly in equipment manufacturing, cultural and entertainment industries.

For example, in the cultural industry, Changsha has also produced Internet celebrity brands such as Cha Yan Yue Se.

Niu Fengrui said that with the development of policies such as the rise of the central region and the development of the western region, the powerful provincial capitals in the central and western regions have become more and more capable of gathering resource elements in the province and surrounding areas, including the population growth rate of cities such as Chengdu, Xi'an and Zhengzhou. It's all very fast.
