His conviction is now final.

The Court of Cassation on Wednesday rejected the appeal of Mustapaha Laabid, LREM deputy for the 1st district of Ille-et-Vilaine.

Found guilty of breach of trust, the elected official was sentenced in early November to eight months in prison, three years of ineligibility and a 10,000 euros fine.

The chosen one says he is the victim of a cabal

He was notably accused of having used for personal purposes funds from the association of assistance to integration Collectif Intermède which he led until his election in 2017. The damage concerned a sum of a little less than 22,000 euros, including nearly 13,000 euros in food expenses.

On the announcement of the decision of the court of appeal, the deputy had indicated that he was going to appeal in cassation and expressed all his anger.

"This judgment is an insult to justice," he reacted.

The elected representative from Rennes had even said that he was the victim of a cabal on the part of certain local elected representatives "who all agreed to try to tear off my scarf as a deputy".
