China News Service, Beijing, June 17 (Reporter Li Jingze) On the 16th, all 410 officers and soldiers of China's 19th batch of peacekeeping troops to Lebanon were awarded the United Nations Peace Medal.

Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Zhao Lijian said at a regular press conference on the 17th that China will continue to work closely with the international community to promote the effectiveness and efficiency of UN peacekeeping operations and play a greater role in maintaining international peace and security.

  Zhao Lijian said that more than 200 people including the commander of the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon, Delkor, the Chinese ambassador to Lebanon Qian Minjian, the representative of the Lebanese Government Army’s South Lebanon Theater Commander, and representatives of Chinese peacekeeping officers and soldiers attended the ceremony.

In his speech, Delkor expressed his gratitude to the Chinese peacekeeping officers and soldiers for their sincere dedication, and believed that their outstanding work ability and noble humanitarian spirit demonstrated the good looks of China and the Chinese military.

  Zhao Lijian pointed out that China is an active participant and an important contributor to UN peacekeeping operations, and the largest troop-contributing country among the second UN peacekeeping contributors and permanent members of the Security Council. It has dispatched more than 40,000 peacekeeping officers and soldiers.

Chinese peacekeeping officers and soldiers abide by the principles of the United Nations Charter, strictly follow the authorization form, faithfully perform the peacekeeping mission, and make important contributions to maintaining world peace and promoting common development.

  Zhao Lijian said that the current role and significance of UN peacekeeping operations has become more prominent in the context where the new crown pneumonia epidemic overlaps with regional hot spots, ethnic conflicts, terrorism and other threats.

China will continue to work closely with the international community to promote the improvement of the effectiveness and efficiency of UN peacekeeping operations and play a greater role in maintaining international peace and security.
