Danish star Christian Eriksen, victim of cardiac arrest when he entered the Euro football competition on Saturday, will have a cardiac defibrillator implanted under the skin, the Danish federation announced on Thursday.
"After the various examinations of the heart undergone by Christian it was decided that he should wear a subcutaneous defibrillator", known by the acronym of DAI (automatic implantable defibrillator) indicates the DBU in a press release.
"This device is necessary after a heart attack because of disturbances in the rhythm" of the heart, she explains.
The federation gives no indication of the consequences for the rest of the career of the 29-year-old Inter Milan player.
This decision, taken by specialists from the large Danish hospital where Eriksen is located since Saturday, "was accepted" by the player and "confirmed by national and international specialists who recommend the same treatment," said the federation.
Players, like the Dutchman Daley Blind, were able to resume their careers after being equipped with this device, which allows to control and regulate the heartbeat.
The announcement of this medical intervention comes a few hours before the kick-off of the Denmark-Belgium match in Copenhagen (6 p.m.), during which a public tribute to the Danish number 10 is scheduled in the 10th minute.
