Europe Biden and Putin meet in Geneva at summit marked by hostility
Russian President
Vladimir Putin is
confident that the "meeting will be productive", at the beginning of the summit in which he will meet with the president of the United States
, Joe Biden,
in Geneva.
Biden, for his part, has expressed that "it is always better to meet face to face."
The summit between the two presidents began today at 1.35 pm local time (11.35 GMT), moments after both arrived separately at the place of the expected meeting, an 18th century mansion called Villa La Grange in a central area of Geneva, where each one was received by the President of Switzerland,
Guy Parmelin.
Both greeted each other with a handshake, in the first diplomatic gesture of a meeting in which today the
eyes of the world
are focused
.
