Andy Murray and Venus Williams, who have won seven Wimbledons between them, have received invitations to play in the main draw of the 2021 edition of the British Grand Slam stage, organizers said on Wednesday.

Scotland's Murray, who won the last of his two Wimbledon titles in 2016, has yet to overcome his lingering physical problems and is currently ranked 124th in the world.

The 34-year-old won his third singles match of the year on Tuesday, beating Frenchman Benoît Paire at the Queen's, a grass preparation tournament.

His last singles appearance at Wimbledon was in 2017.

The eldest of the Williams sisters, 40 years old and five times crowned at Wimbledon, will participate in her 90th Grand Slam tournament.

The former world No. 1, finalist in London in 2017, is ranked 103rd in the WTA rankings.

Her run at Roland Garros ended prematurely when she was beaten in the first round by Russian Ekaterina Alexandrova.

Williams first played Wimbledon in 1997.

The young Spaniard Carlos Alcaraz, protected by his compatriot Juan Carlos Ferrero, also received an invitation from the organizers after reaching the third round at Roland Garros.
