“The maximum number of new cases of the current wave of the epidemic can be registered at the end of June - about 25 thousand. In this case, the peak of the epidemic will be in mid-July,” said Viktor Zakharov, head of the Department of Mathematical Modeling of Energy Systems of St. Petersburg State University.
At the same time, according to him, the number of active patients will be 580 thousand, which is higher than the January values.
According to the forecast of scientists, by mid-July the daily number of new cases could reach 20 thousand. The level of the pandemic will decrease approximately along the same curve, only in the opposite direction, experts say.
