• The regional elections take place on June 20 and 27.

  • The candidates do not all have the same ideas concerning transport, an important competence of the regional council.

TER, coaches, carpooling, school transport ... Among many others, transport is part of the competence of the regional council.

A few days before the election, what are the candidates in the Pays-de-la-Loire proposing on this subject?

20 Minutes

takes stock.

Competition divides

If one subject is almost universally accepted, it is that of the need to develop public transport. But the means to achieve this diverge. While Christelle Morancais wants the TER offer to increase thanks to the opening up to competition (at least one train per hour and per station every day of the week), as does François de Rugy (LREM) whose The objective is above all to improve the quality of service to boost attendance, their opponents Matthieu Orphelin (EELV), Guillaume Garot (PS) and Eddy Le Beller (LO) are placed against.

For the ecologist, it is necessary to engage squarely "a" big bang "of the offer of public transport by the end of the mandate to cover the whole of the regional territory by carbon-free alternatives to the private car".

Like a majority of the candidates, he promises to renovate some existing railway lines, such as Nantes-Paris, but the left-wing lists go further and come together with the “saving of small lines” or even reopening, or the creation of “service”. metropolitan express ”around large towns.

Creating a single ticket is one of the proposals by Guillaume Garot and François de Rugy.

Aid for the most precarious… and motorists?

If all promise better networking, we still need to have the means to take them. Guillaume Garot's flagship proposal: free regional transport for 18-26 year olds, and the 1 euro trip for subscribed employees. Matthieu Orphelin, for his part, wishes "to strengthen social and solidarity pricing which can go as far as free for the most vulnerable". The candidate of the National Gathering Hervé Juvin also makes proposals for purchasing power ... but for motorists who must stop "persecuting" according to him.

"The region will grant a mobility pass to inhabitants of rural areas without public transport, which will ensure them access to urban areas with their current vehicle", he promises, while the large French cities should, by 2025, ban the most polluting cars from their streets.

On this subject, François de Rugy rather imagines “aid for changing vehicles”.

Less carbonaceous and more secure

While not all of the candidates are fans of the car, a majority speak of carpooling but also cycling.

Financing of tracks, real intermodality are objectives for the PS while EELV aims to "multiply the practice by 4 by 2030 by supporting secure infrastructures and the creation of parking lots at each Aléop stopping point".

To decarbonize transport, Greens, Socialists and LREM are proposing to modernize the existing fleet of vehicles with more environmentally friendly engines.

Christelle Morancais wants to continue betting on hydrogen.
