The grand coalition has agreed to extend the powers of online searches to source telecommunications surveillance.

This repeats a pattern from the previous legislative period, when the rules for the use of the so-called state Trojan were also extended in the months before the federal election.

However, the previous statistics on the use of these investigative tools make the warnings of massive government surveillance seem ill-founded.

The Union and the SPD have also agreed on a so-called supply chain law, which holds German corporations liable for human rights obligations at their suppliers.

We explain the structure of the new rules and discuss their pros and cons.

In this week's Corona update we explain the difference between the epidemic situation of national scope - which the Bundestag extended until September - and the epidemic situation of state-wide scope - which the state parliament of North Rhine-Westphalia is allowing to expire on June 19. We also talk about the possibly unexpectedly early main decision of the Federal Constitutional Court on the corona restrictions and the hardships that these bring with them, especially for (law) students.

Then we turn to data protection again.

According to a ruling by the European Court of Justice, the data protection authorities of the other member states can also take action against the large Internet companies if the data protection authority in their country of domicile Ireland is too passive.

The constellations in which this is concretely possible, however, are narrowly defined.

In the end, as always, there is the Just Judgment - this time on a black pine whose branches protrude onto a neighboring property.
