A painting painted by David Bowie was auctioned on the Internet on Tuesday and quickly exceeded its estimate of between $ 9,000 and $ 12,000.

The canvas had been purchased for $ 5 by an individual in a charity store.

The 20x25 cm painting, which represents a profile portrait, exceeded $ 17,000 in just a few hours.

The event is due to end on Thursday, June 24, said the Canadian auction house Cowley Abbott, in charge of the sale.

Bowie rarely at auction

First sold in 2001 on a website devoted to David Bowie, the painting, entitled "DHead XLVI", then ended up in a charity store in Ontario (Canada), where an individual bought it for 5 dollars.

It was this happy buyer who then contacted the auction house.

“The artwork was painted between 1995 and 1997 as part of a series of portraits by David Bowie (called Dead Heads or DHeads),” says Rob Cowley, president of Cowley Abbott.

“It is signed and dated 1997 on the back.

The painting represents a face in profile on a red and blue background, the features of which are missing.

This is the first time that a work by the British singer has been auctioned in Canada.

“We were very happy to find that the artwork was original and authentic,” added Rob Cowley.

We are fans of David Bowie's work and it's very exciting to bring a work of him to the market.
