A chemical freight train and a heavy truck collided on Wednesday morning.

The accident which took place around 3 a.m. resulted in the derailment of seven wagons and the leak of three vats of phosphoric acid.

Traffic is currently cut off on the D27.

A collision between a freight train carrying chemicals and a truck towing a boat occurred overnight from Tuesday to Wednesday in the Ardennes, slightly injuring the train driver, the prefecture announced.

The accident took place around 3 a.m. at a level crossing on a departmental, the D27, between the municipalities of Rumigny and Liart, said the prefecture of the Ardennes in a press release.

Traffic interrupted until further notice

In the collision, which caused a fire quickly brought under control by firefighters on the truck's trailer, "seven cars derailed and three tanks suffered a phosphoric acid leak".

"A team of 44 firefighters is on site in order to plug the leaks and limit the flow", as well as "the chemical risks team of the SDIS des Ardennes", detailed the prefecture.

The investigation was entrusted to the gendarmerie of Revin, the departmental cut and traffic on this road interrupted until further notice.
